Two calculators and a readiness check
Three small tools, each answering one specific question with your own numbers. None of them fetch or quote a live exchange rate — you supply the rate you were actually given.
Conversion cost check
Enter the amount and the exact rate a provider quoted you to see what the margin in that rate is actually costing you.
Assumptions this uses
- You supply the rate — this tool never fetches or quotes a live market rate
- The spread you enter should be the gap between the quoted rate and the current mid-market rate, checked separately
- The result shows the cost of the margin only, not any separate flat fee the provider may also charge
Limitations: Does not account for a separate flat transfer fee, correspondent bank deductions, or any change in the rate between quote and settlement.

Ask for the rate, not just the fee
A "no transfer fee" claim tells you nothing about the exchange rate you are being given. Ask the provider directly for the exact rate that will be applied, then compare it to the mid-market rate for GBP/USD before deciding anything else.
Transfer option comparison
Compare two transfer options — for example a bank wire versus an online transfer service — on their total cost for a transfer.
Assumptions this uses
- Cost per transfer should include both the stated fee and the estimated cost of the exchange rate margin
- Assumes you are comparing on total real cost, not just the headline fee
- Does not assume either option is faster or slower — only compares total cost
Limitations: Does not account for a one-off large transfer's specific limits, delivery speed differences, or regulatory standing.

The GBP/USD Transfer Cost Worksheet
A fillable worksheet for checking the real cost of a sterling-to-dollar transfer before you send it.
Get the free guide →Pre-transfer readiness checklist
A quick check before sending a large or first-time GBP/USD transfer, so nothing obvious gets missed.
Assumptions this uses
- This is a readiness checklist, not a guarantee that a transfer will be problem-free
- Assumes you have already obtained an actual quoted rate to compare
Limitations: Does not check anything on your behalf — it only reflects what you have indicated you have done.

Once you know what you are trying to avoid — a wide markup, a slow transfer, an unregulated operator — comparing real transfer options is the next practical step.
